What are you most self-confident about?

Sunday, June 28th, 2026

What I’m most self-confident about is not that I have all the answers. It’s that there is no challenge I am unwilling to face, and no situation I am unable to learn from.

Sixteen years of building PRACTICE has given me more than enough chances to test that belief. I have had setbacks, surprises, and near-death business moments that cost me nights of sleep, put knots in my stomach, and tested every ounce of resilience in my body. There were moments when very rational people would have told me to quit. Some probably did.

But I didn’t.

I kept going because the purpose was bigger than the pain of the moment. And with time, I learned something about myself: I may not be numb to crisis, but I am no longer intimidated by a daunting, unplanned challenge.

This past year gave me another reminder of that. Three colleagues refused to sign updated NDAs and spun out to start a competing entity. At the time, it felt heavy. In hindsight, it was probably for the better. And in the long list of things PRACTICE has survived — near bankruptcy, COVID, running out of cash, unpaid work, contractors holding work hostage, and stories I could tell for days — it became one more chapter in a much longer book.

What helped me through it was not pretending it did not hurt. It was leaning into my faith, finding the things I could still be grateful for, and reminding myself of what I had already overcome — from challenges in my childhood to the hardest seasons of business.

That process is what gives me confidence. Not the belief that hard things will stop happening, but the belief that when they do, I know how to meet them: with faith, gratitude, reflection, and the willingness to keep moving forward.
