Biology Passing Reached ~80% as Wagner Added
Focused Regents Support

Susan E. Wagner High School | Staten Island, NY | 2025–26

The Administrator Challenge

Susan E. Wagner needed focused Biology support during a critical spring Regents preparation window. Scholars needed more time with vocabulary, lab concepts, CER writing, question decoding, and teacher-prioritized assignments, while teachers needed another trained adult who could help students stay engaged and move through challenging course material.

The PRACTICE Approach

  • Two Education Champions provided classroom-based Biology support from February through June.
  • Tutors reached approximately 375 scholars across approximately 75-80 sessions.
  • Support focused on Regents readiness, labs, vocabulary, CER writing, question decoding, and teacher-prioritized assignments.
  • Tutors worked 1:1 and in small groups so students could revisit difficult content in real time.

Why This Model Fits a Busy High School Campus

This model gave teachers another trained adult during active Biology instruction, while giving scholars repeated chances to practice Regents-aligned tasks, revisit confusing concepts, and complete priority work before the exam window.

Takeaways for School Leaders

  • Biology passing reached roughly 80%, about 29 percentage points above the prior year.
  • Two Education Champions brought focused support into active Biology classrooms, reaching nearly 375 scholars during the spring Regents window.
  • Teachers described tutors as helpful, respectful, and easy to work alongside, giving Wagner a model it can adapt for Algebra and ELA.
